CROSSING OF THE FRENCH-SWISS JURA

BOIS D'AMONT

More details

  • Restaurant deal : Full board
  • Accommodation : Gite, hotel or holiday complex

Location

Jura Massif

Validity of the stay

Every monday from 27/12/16 to 20/03/2017 include

This raid takes place on the mountain ridges of the Jura that dominate the Leman lake and provide exceptional panoramas on the whole Alps, from the Berner Oberland to Oisans.
Luggage is carried from stop to stop in a car, and we stop at a welcoming hotel or gite every night. It is a comfortable crossing!
The Haut Jura is a land of traditions: mountain agriculture that maintains an open and varied landscape, the exploitation of the forest, woodwork and in the villages nestled in the dales, several precision professions that the forefathers carried out at home in the long winter months. Your guide will narrate you that craftsmanship which has now become a small industry along the locations and the stories.
The Haut Jura is also a Regional Nature Park, we will therefore take the time to appreciate the indescribable charm of its landscapes: secret dales, mountain ridges dominating the forest, frozen lakes, dispersed hamlets and the 'field forests' landscapes. While making our own tracks we will learn how to recognise those of the fax, the hare, the squirrel or the chamois while hoping a furtive and magical encounter with one of them! ...

PROGRAMME :

Monday: Le Brassus – Col du Marchairuz (Switzerland)
Reception and transfer to the point of departure.
Short walk to an isolated cabin, picnic. Then a magnificent hike on the ridges of Mt Tendre (1679 m) : the panorama reaches far and allows to observe the Berne and Valais Alps on one side and the valley of the Joux, the cradle of fine Swiss watchmaking on the other side.
Overnight stay at the mountain pass of Machairuz (1447 m).
Level difference: + 250 m / -  250 m        Length: 5 km        Timetable: 3H00

Tuesday: Col du Marchairuz -  Bois d’Amont (France)
We track at the centre of the Natural Vaudois Park in the dale of the Amburnex to reach Bois d'Amont, the capital of wooden boxes. Majestic spruce forests and border stories are on the programme for this day.
Shuttle transfer at Prémanon (10 min).
Level difference: + 300 m / -  650 m        Length: 11 km        Timetable: 5H30

Wednesday: The Dôle
We flirt with the border to observe chamois and reach the top of the Dôle (1677 m). A wild route at the foot of the south face of the Dole, the kingdom of the Chamois (mountain goats). Then progressive climb through superb little valleys to the top. Panorama of the Valais Alps and the Mont-Blanc mountain range. Return to the same accommodation.
Level difference: + 750 m / -  800 m        Length: 15 km        Timetable: 6 h 30 min

Thursday: Prémanon – Le Manon
Transfer by shuttle to Lamoura (10 min).  Crossing of the Massacre forest and its historic anecdotes to join the Combe a la Chevre. A charming route with nice panoramas of the Jura mountain range. If this day should have a theme it would be the building heritage: magnificent farmhouses and surprising lofts dot the route!
Level difference: + 450 m / -  450 m        Length: 13.5 km        Timetable: 6H00

Friday: Le Manon - Lelex
A typical stage through 'field forest' landscapes that give the mountain range its charm. Another day without encountering lots of people! We cross the « Hautes Combes », at the centre of the Nature Park of the Haut Jura, in the region of the Lapidary. Descent to Lelex.
Level difference: + 250 m / -  720 m        Length: 12 km        Timetable: 5H30

Saturday: Le Crêt de la Neige
The apotheosis with the climb of the Crêt de la Neige (1717 m), the highest point in the Jura. Approach by cable car. Then the point is to find the weakness line in the foothills of the high Jura mountain range. To arrive on the crest that dominates Geneva and its lake. At the top it is not rare to have fun in devilish toboggans (depending on the snow consistency).
