All year round
In Ornans, birthplace of the painter Gustave Courbet, whose bicentenary the Doubs department is celebrating in 2019, a weekend made up of exceptional moments awaits you.
Kick off your stay with a visit to the Musée Courbet, in the heart of the town of Ornans.
The visitor trail evokes the career of this local son, from Ornans to Paris, the aesthetic rupture he brought about, the artistic milieu he frequented and his political commitments right up to his exile and death in Switzerland.
The following day, you will set off in the footsteps of the artist by following the "Courbet Trails", eight à la carte itineraries that explore the sites he painted and offer an immersion into these landscapes, featuring monumental springs, cliffs, gorges and forests brimming with tales to tell.
Five highlights of national and international significance will define this year devoted to Courbet.
With exceptional exhibitions and conferences entitled Courbet’s drawings, Courbet Hodler, Courbet differently..., the presence of Franco-Chinese painter Yan Pei Ming in residence at a former studio of Gustave Courbet prior to a return of Yan Pei Ming face à Courbet and nearly 70 other events on the programme from January, you are sure to remember your weekend in Courbet Country!
